Project 1 : Application of Building Services
The objective of this project is as follows:
1. To develop students understanding and knowledge of building services systems in design and construction.
2. To apply appropriate building services system and solution for a specific design.
3. To demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of applicability of specific building services system in the design in response to practical considerations
4. To develop students’ understanding and familiarity on the drawing conventions and standards for different building services systems
Learning Outcomes of this Project
On completion of this assignment, students will be able to:
1. Propose a complete installation of appropriate building services systems for the students’ own design; cold and hot water supply, sewerage, sanitary and drainage systems as well as electricity supply.
2. Familiarize with the images of different components for each building services system proposed.
Project 2 : The Inspiration and The Intervention
The Inspiration and The Intervention
Project 2 concerns with the services systems for medium to large scale buildings. This is a group project with individual component where each group has to conduct a case study on existing building to learn about and analyse the following services systems: i) centralised air-conditioning system, ii) active and passive fire protection system and iii) mechanical transportation system. The case study will be the inspiration for the next task, which is to find an institutional building complex (i.e.: school, college, university, etc.) which currently does not employ any centralised air-conditioning and mechanical transportation system with only minimal fire protection system. Each group has to propose design intervention towards the original design to accommodate spaces and components required for the installation of all the above services systems.
